How we bought Loggins × Huckleberry.

Wesley Ward's interest was the starting point, but the pedigree gave us additional reasons to like the colt. Loggins was a Grade I-placed son of Ghostzapper, and the dam brings Liam's Map over a productive Malibu Moon family.

The appeal is the combination. His physical suggests enough strength and substance to fit an early program, but he is not simply a compact speed horse. There is length through the body and a strong hindquarter, giving him some room to develop as the distances increase.

At a $200,000 hammer price, our half-share put $100,000 into the Sierra Leone book. He also gives the partnership a different development path from the rest of the group, remaining with the Ward / Don't Tell My Wife program while the other yearlings head to South Carolina.

The Dam Side

Huckleberry is an unraced daughter of Liam's Map, but the family underneath her has already produced runners. Her first three racing-age foals include winner Huck's Agenda and placed Miss Motor Mouth. The second dam, Enhanced, is a Malibu Moon mare and a full sister to Prospective, a multiple graded-stakes winner who earned more than $700,000.

The third dam, Spirited Away, deepens the page further. Her descendants include Grade I winner Kalypso. That gives this colt a female family with real graded-stakes speed rather than a page dependent entirely on the sire line.

The Physical

From the sale photograph, he presents as a strong, mature-looking chestnut with good depth through the heart and barrel and a notably powerful hindquarter. He is fairly compact without looking cramped, and his topline reads as balanced.

What stands out most is substance. He has enough bone and body to look like a horse who can handle an early training program. The photo also shows a good length of hip and a shoulder that gives him more athletic shape than a purely blocky sprint model.

Our Read

This is a pedigree-and-physical pairing that makes sense for the way he will be trained. The dam side adds proven class through Prospective and Kalypso, while the individual looks strong enough to support the early-speed influence that attracted Wesley Ward in the first place.

Physical comments are based on the sale photograph and are observations, not a substitute for live inspection or veterinary review.
