Hip 759 · Keeneland September
How we bought Life Is Good × Ready For Romance.
We had this filly on the short list before she entered the ring. The first two-year-olds by Life Is Good were already beginning to run, and she was one of the individuals in the crop that our team consistently liked.
The process on her was the same as the rest of the Keeneland group: multiple sets of eyes, trainer input and a full veterinary review before we were prepared to bid. She sold for $280,000, a number we felt left us in a good position relative to the quality we saw in the horse.
She also mattered to the shape of the fund. Several other fillies we liked went beyond our budget, so we resisted the temptation to chase them simply to balance the roster. Hip 759 met both parts of the test — a horse we wanted and a price we were willing to pay.
The Dam Side
Ready For Romance, by More Than Ready, was a stakes winner herself and has already produced three winners. Her current runners include Sammy Davis, a stakes winner, and Cali Cat, a multiple winner and stakes-placed runner. That makes the first dam unusually active and relevant for a young mare.
The second dam, Strange Romance, comes from a family with graded-stakes depth, including Canadian Derby winner Matt's Broken Vow and graded winner High Button Shoes. This is not just a commercially attractive More Than Ready mare; it is a female family that has repeatedly produced runners with class and durability.
The Physical
She is one of the most athletic-looking individuals in the group. The photo shows a long, clean neck, a well-shaped shoulder, good depth through the body and a powerful but not coarse hindquarter. She has plenty of leg, but her proportions remain balanced.
For an April 29 foal, she already carries herself like a fairly complete athlete while still leaving room to develop. The topline is clean and the overall silhouette is efficient. She looks like a filly who should be able to use her frame rather than simply grow into a large one.
The residual-value case is especially appealing here. She is a filly by Life Is Good out of a stakes-winning More Than Ready mare who is already producing stakes horses. If she can add meaningful race performance of her own, the female family gives her a strong broodmare foundation. The physical is good enough that we do not have to rely on pedigree alone.
Physical comments are based on the sale photograph and are observations, not a substitute for live inspection or veterinary review.
