How we bought Forte × Paper Rings.

This filly was one of the horses we felt strongly about before the sale. Forte brings the race record of a champion juvenile, and Paper Rings is an unraced daughter of Uncle Mo. The pedigree was supported by an individual our team consistently liked, and the veterinary review was clean.

At $375,000, she became the most expensive horse in the Sierra Leone book. This was not a purchase created by a soft moment in the ring. It was a horse we had conviction in and were willing to pay a fair price to own outright.

That distinction matters. Some of the best opportunities in a fund come from market value; others come from being willing to stretch to a sensible number for an individual the entire team believes belongs in the program.

The Dam Side

Paper Rings is an unraced daughter of Uncle Mo, an important broodmare sire influence, and this Forte filly is her first foal. The second dam, Enchanting Lady, was a genuine race mare: a stakes winner who placed in multiple Grade III races and earned more than $300,000.

The family remains productive deeper in the page. Enchanting Lady's dam is from an A.P. Indy line, and the fourth dam traces to Seeking the Heart, a family that has produced graded performers including Twenty Four Mamba and Chewing Gum. The page therefore combines commercial broodmare-sire power with a female line that has repeatedly produced durable, useful runners.

The Physical

She has the look of an athletic, scopey filly rather than an overly heavy one. The sale photograph shows good length through her neck and body, a clean shoulder and a strong, rounded hip. She stands over plenty of ground while remaining balanced.

She also looks as though she has room to mature. That is appealing in a February filly: the frame is already there, but she does not look maxed out physically. The overall impression is quality and athleticism rather than bulk.

Our Read

The attraction here is balance. Forte supplies high-level two-year-old class, Uncle Mo strengthens the broodmare side, and Enchanting Lady gives the immediate female family legitimate stakes quality. Physically, she looks capable of carrying that pedigree without being coarse or overdeveloped.

Physical comments are based on the sale photograph and are observations, not a substitute for live inspection or veterinary review.
